Times Shamrock considering Pocono purchase?

The Northeast PA Media News and Gossip blog reported today that Times Shamrock may be the frontrunner to purchase the Pocono Record, currently owned by media powerhouse Rupert Murdoch.

Murdoch purchased the paper in December as part of his deal to acquire Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal. Prior to sealing the deal, Murdoch indicated that he would likely sell all previous members of the Ottaway newspaper chain, including the Record, in order to focus more attention on the Journal.

The Record is based in Stroudsburg and boasts a daily circulation of approximately 24,000, with a Sunday circulation of roughly 30,000.

Times Shamrock is owner of the Scranton Times-Tribune, the Wilkes-Barre Citizens Voice and the Hazelton Standard-Speaker, among other media holdings.
