Washington Post launches new section

The Washington Post recently merged its Style and Arts section. You can see the results at the NewsDesigner site.

Note the examples of what we discuss in graphics class:

  • Modular design, emphasizing rectangular story structure where possible. Only inside pages violate this standard because of advertising restrictions.
  • Large graphics, including one dominant graphic per page.
  • Large headlines with a clean, eye-catching style.
  • Nice use of white space, the often forgotten element of good design.
