Dow Jones expands internship program

University of Scranton seniors can now apply for the Dow Jones Newspaper Fund’s business reporting summer internship program, according to a recent press release. Previously, the internships were only open to sophomores and juniors.

The Fund operates a variety of paid summer internships, offering students an average of $475 weekly as well as a “wonderful” learning opportunity. Those who return to campus receive $1,000 scholarships to continue their education.

The list of past DJF interns includes students from the University of Scranton, most recently Michael P. Hill in 2005.

Students may apply for internships in the areas of:

  • Online Editing
  • Newspaper Copy Editing
  • Sports Copy Editing
  • Business Reporting

Editing internships are available only to juniors and seniors.

The deadline for application is Nov. 1, 2007. You can download an application in PDF form for the editing and business reporting internships. DJF recommends reading the FAQ and other material first.

An editing exam is required. I have served as a monitor for these in the past and would be glad to do so again.
