Scranton (pop. 74,320) may seem like a small town to students coming from Philadelphia, New York or northern New Jersey, but Corbett is correct to point out that it’s a great news environment.
- Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is the No. 53 television market in the country, with seven full-power television stations.
- Scranton/Wilkes-Barre is the No. 69 radio market in the country, with more than a dozen AM stations and nearly 50 FM stations.
- Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has three daily newspapers — the Times-Tribune, the Times Leader and the Citizen’s Voice — as well as a fourth daily, the Standard-Speaker in nearby Hazelton and numerous weeklies/monthlies. Wilkes-Barre is one of the few remaining two-newspaper towns in the United States.
And, of course, there’s the political environment.
